You Will Need!

• A few pieces of heavy 8 1/2 x 11 paper, such as card stock or construction paper
• Scissors
• A pencil, marker or pen
• Decorating supplies!

Step 1:

Begin with an 8 1/2" x 11" pieces of construction paper or card stock.
Card stock works best and easily obtained from any office supply store. You may also begin by using a manila filing folder. This maybe easier for very young pop-up makes (if using a manila filing folder skip to step 3).

Step 2:

Fold the construction paper in half to form a card.

Step 3:

Draw a line from the folded edge of the card to the center.

Step 4:

Cut along the line starting at the folded edge.

Step 5:

Fold back the top flap to form a triangle...

Step 6:

...and crease with your thumb or finger.

Step 7:

Fold back the bottom flap to form a triangle and crease with your thumb or finger.

Step 8:

Put the bottom flap back in its original position.​

Step 9:

Put the top triangle flap back in its original position.

---

Step 10:

Open the card up like a tent.

---

Step 11:

Using your thumb or fingers, push the top triangle through to the inside.

Step 12:

Using your thumb or finger, push the bottom triangle through to the inside also.

Step 13:

Close the card...

Step 14:

...and press firmly.

Step 15:

Open your Mouth Pop-up!

Variation:

Draw a jagged line instead of a straight one and you have a mouth with teeth!

Decorate your pop-up. Using pencils, markers or crayons (avoid point since it will buckle the paper). You can also cut out other paper shapes and attach them to the top of the mouth to make a nose or snout.
