Ship - Advanced

Step 1:

Step 2:

Print out the ship's pieces and card on heavy paper, like card stock or construction paper. There are three pages total: 2 pages of pieces and 1 card page.

Step 3:

Using a ruler as a guide, take the rounded end of a paper clip (or ballpoint pen that has run out of ink) and press along the dotted lines of the pop-up pieces and card.

Step 4:

Carefully cut out the pop-up pieces and card following the solid, black lines.

Step 5:

Take your card and fold it in half. Unfold it and put it back to its original position.

Step 6:

Take the Ship piece and mountain fold along all of the dotted lines.

Step 7:

Bring Tan A around in a circle.

Step 8:

Spread a small amount of glue on Tab A.

Step 9:

Glue Tab A to the inside edge of the ship's other end.

Step 10:

Valley fold Tab B (the water shaped tab) upwards.

Step 11:

Pre-fold Tab C inwards.

Step 12:

Spread glue on the underside of Tab B.

Step 13:

Match Tab B to its shape on the card and press it flat.

Step 14:

Wait for Tab B to dry in place.

Step 15:

Press the ship flat. Spread a thin layer of glue on Tab C.

Step 16:

Close the card, making sure that  Tab C matches up to its shape on the card as it closes. Press firmly and wait for glue to dry.

Step 17:

Open the card. Your ship is already beginning to take shape! Set the card aside for a moment.

Step 18:

Pick up one of your sail pieces. Fold the long strip backwards along the dotted line (at the top of the sail).

Step 19:

Spread a thin layer of glue on the back of the strip.

Step 20:

Press it down to the back of the sail, making sure that it lines up along the center of the sail and mast. Repeat steps 18 & 20 on the other two sail pieces.

Step 21:

Find the sail with Tab D. Fold the tab backwards.

Step 22:

Spread a thin layer of glue on the "Glue Here D" shape on the card.

Step 23:

Match Tab D up to the "Glue Here D" shape on the card. Press firmly and allow the glue to dry.

Step 24:

Repeat steps 21-23 for the sail with Tab E.

Repeat steps 21-23 for the sail with Tab E.

Step 26:

Locate your Deck piece and pre fold Tab H forward.

Step 27:

Valley fold the Deck piece in half along the dotted line.

Step 28:

Mountain fold Tab I along the dotted lines.

Step 29:

Now comes the trickiest part. Push the masts of the sails through the slits in the deck...

Step 29 Continued:

...until the masts are pocking through the holes in the middle of the deck.

Step 30:

Spread a thin layer of glue on Tab H.

Step 31:

Attach Tab H on the inside front edge of the ship.

Step 32:

Pinch the front and hold it until the glue dries.

Step 33:

Spread a small amount of glue onto Tab I.

Step 34:

Attach Tab I on the inside rear edge of the ship.

Step 35:

Pinch the back of the ship until the glue dries.

Step 36:

Spread a small amount of glue on the "Glue Here G" shape on the Ship's Deck.

Step 37:

Match the Bow of your ship (piece G) to the "Glue Here G" shape on the Deck.

Step 38:

Press the Bow piece down and hold it in place until the glue dries.

Step 39:

Close the card...

Step 39 Continued:

And open it again! Your ship is ready to sail the seas!
