Pop-up work from Pratt!
It’s holiday time in Matthew Reinhart’s pop-up class at Pratt Institute! This week his students took the plunge and designed their own holiday pop-up cards. The holiday could be an official one, an informal one or completely made up. That’s the great thing about art school. Experimentation is encouraged!
This student pop-up deserves special recognition because of its ingenious dual representation of both a holiday (St. Patrick’s Day) and a tradition of college life (but NEVER at Pratt). Vomiting green beer!

A twisting U.S. constitution unfurls in this spectacular 4 th of July pop-up. The simple graphic colors and shapes are a perfect complement to the 3D historical document.

This student chose a world of black and white to show the creepy starkness of Halloween.

Another take on October 31 st shows a stylized bat making it's way across a moon lit sky. Although these are the final projects for the assignment the students had to make several rough prototypes first.

A comic take on Halloween shows a haunted house inhabited by a gaggle of ghosts, complete with “BOO!” for that extra touch of fear!

An unusual take on the New Orleans tradition of Fat Tuesday incorporates a love of donuts that are consumed while inside a full stomach (the assignment didn't say the pop-up had to make sense, it just had to work!).

The pop-up students at Pratt Institute this year are superb and we will continue to bring you more of their fascinating work!

The simple planting of a tree highlights Arbor Day. This pop-up uses a beautiful combination of subtle papers to illustrate the act.

From the Far East comes Chinese New Year celebrated with a writhing dragon. Again, the choice of papers and colors is integral to the success of the final piece.
