As always, rough drawing are the first step in the creation process. Because the dolls will be sewn from cloth sometimes the face looks wider in the sketches.
 



It only takes a few hours to come up with the initial sketches for the designs.

 

Colors are selected for each character and its clothing and accessories.

 



But the largest amount of time is spent developing the exact way the dolls faces will look.

 



The artists go over all different kinds of fabric samples to pick out the best one. Here is the first rough versions of Alice and the white rabbit...

and a revision of the rabbit, adding a pocketwatch...
