June Sneak Peek
A behind the scenes look at Robert's flower pop-up note cards.

Pop-up Daisies

Robert tries many different version of each flower to find just the right one. This is an initial design for the daisy card.

The design of the center of this flower that was ultimately scrapped on this early attempt at a daisy. It doesn’t always work out the way you envision!

This is a more finished version of the card with notes about where to add the color.

Finally color is added and the first hand made pop-up card is created.

All of the pieces that will make up the petals of the flower are carefully and methodically sketched onto tissue paper. Accuracy is the most important part at this stage.
Based on the pencil tracings, digital die lines are made in the computer software program Adobe Illustrator. These digital die lines will be used by the manufacturer to create an actual die stamp that will cut out all the pop-up petals for the flowers. Color is added using Illustrator as well. Each box of note cards has for different color designs.

Pop-up Roses

The mechanics of the pop-up are tested over and over. This is a very rough early version of the rose.

On the finished rose the color artwork is lightly sketched in using pencil.

Final color is added to each flower, creating a vivid work of art.
