1) a) 1200’s 2) c) Benedictine monk Matthew Paris created the first know “volvelle,” a paper wheel which was attached to a page in book. Before the volvelle, monk’s had to turn a heavy book around in their lap to view a circular chart from different angles. The chart told them when certain holidays should be observed. D) British artist and architect Thomas Malton created the first known,
fully 3-dimensional pop-up in a book to help young artist’s
understand the concept of perspective. The pop-up is a paper box,

A) Australia 8)
B) When all the pop-up pieces have been placed very close together
on the printed sheet. This is done to conserve as much paper as possible,
thereby keeping the cost of the book low. Nesting is also one of the
most tedious parts of creating a pop-up book. It is just like trying
to put together a jigsaw puzzle with knowing what the final picture
looks like. 10) D) The Movable Book Society. It may stand for all the other choices as well but this is the only one we really care about! <<Back to the Pop-up Quiz |
