Kristi Casey

Template used: Pop-up Reindeer

Kristi is a pop-up fan who loves making cards. Here, she used layers of different colored papers and rubber stamp techniques to make a one-of-a-kind Christmas card. We love the googly eyes!

Jim Kurz, Milwaukee, WI

Template used: Pop-up Turkey

"It was my intent to utilize the concept of your Turkey pop-up template and add various materials to build a figure in 3D. Obviously, most of this creation consists of feathers which were purchased in various sizes and styles from a popular craft store chain. I strayed a bit from how the feathers actually appear on a turkey, but thought imagination was acceptable for this project. (I doubt the turkey union will file a grievance.) In addition, it's interesting what you can find around the house to use. For instance, the ribbed material used for the neck and lower portion of the body was "gripper" shelf liner in cream and rust. The effect (appearance and touch) this type of material presented was perfect. Other materials included watercolor paint, plastic eyes (complete with eye lashes and eye shadow...appearance is important, you know) and a foam sheet all found at the craft store.
I might add that in order to maintain the 3D concept I desired for this pop-up, it was important to apply all materials on not just the front of the template, but on all practical areas that were visible once the turkey was standing.

The base on which the turkey stood was created using a photograph I took of autumn leaves while viewing peak fall colors in southeastern Wisconsin in early-October. I thought this setting was most appropriate for this purpose.

Surprisingly, this guy wasn't as bulky as I had thought when the card was closed, although stronger packaging for mailing was necessary. A standard paper greeting card envelope would never have withstood USPS processing."
Kathleen Hackney, Miami FL/Student in Savannah GA

Template used: Pop-up Christmas Tree

Kathleen used all kinds of embellishment - mini christmas tree lights and ornaments; little flat presents with bows; and of course, glitter! She also used a special paper for the base of the card.

Kathleen says: "I love these print outs, I don't have money for any gifts and these make perfect ones."
