| Traditionally the field of paper engineering has been predominately male. But that's definitely changing as we enter the 21st century as can be seen by the amazing work by these two paper engineers on opposite sides of the world.

María José Gerard
María José Gerard is from Chile and says it's difficult to find pop-up books there but the internet has been a great help in learning about pop-ups and paper engineering.
She is about to finish a career in Design and for a final project she decided to create a pop-up book for adults on the National Monuments of the city of Santiago, the capital of Chile.
After careful consideration she decided on 7 different monuments and began working exclusively with white paper. The images here are of the principal house of government, El Palacio de la Moneda.
Her work is very delicate and complex because she prefers to work on a small scale (yes, that is a 10 cent coin used for scale!).
Maria is now looking to produce her book in an edition of about 1000 copies to keep in limited for collectors. We think she's definitely on the right track!
