Robert also headed up a workshop on pop-up books for illustrators who were looking for new ways to inspire their work.
At the workshop were dozens of different kinds of pop-up books which also included how-to books, like David A. Carter's "Let's Make it Pop-up" for kids.

Production was also part of the workshop, so Robert brought different samples of the process involved in creating a commercial pop-up book.

Matthew Reinhart was a surprise guest and offered his thoughts about the pop-up publishing world.
He even gave a first look at the printed proofs for his (and Robert's) upcoming book Encyclopedia Prehistorica: Sharks and Sea Monsters.

With the help of an overhead screen, the pop-up enthusiasts were given a crash course in the basic principles of paper engineering (isn't technology wonderful!)

All of the participants brought tools to work, so with Matthew leading the way, a pop-up demonstration began.

Matthew answers questions on why he chose to enter the world of pop-ups.
Answer: He loves the world of 3 dimensions, he went to art school to get his MFA in Industrial Design.
