Flaps, Folds, Figures, and Flash:
Books With Movable Parts!
The New Jersey Book Arts Symposium and Exhibition
On November 3rd, over 100 artists, collectors, and book lovers gathered at the John Cotton Dana Library on the Newwark-Rutgers University Campus for the 12th Annual New Jersey Book Arts Symposium and Exhibition. Some of the artists and presenters in attendance this year were Ann Montanaro, William Dane, Ellen Rubin, Maria Pisano, Chuck Miley, Ed Hutchins, Debra Weier, Kyle Olmon, and Judith Brodsky. The day was packed with fun and informative talks about artist books and methods and the energy levels were high as the crowd was packed with many familiar and friendly faces. Below are some photos from the symposium along with the opening reception of the accompanying exhibition curated by Amanda Thackray. The show just came down this January 7th, but hopefully these images will get everyone in the area excited for the next symposium in 2007!
Here we see the staggered display cases of many of the above mentioned book artists and collectors.
Program organizer and pop-up promoter, Ann Montanaro, shows off many of her favorite movable artist books and business cards.
