Robert's latest travels As many of you know Robert was the 2003 Recipient of the Mazza Medallion given for excellence in field of children's illustration. Past recipients have included Leo and Diane Dillon and Ed Young (Robert's hero!). The Medallion was presented at a special reception at Findlay University in mid-May. Surprise guest was Robert's sister Wendy Sabuda! Thanks Cheryl McNish for the pictures! Robert was thrilled to discover that not only was the medallion made of hand made, cast paper but the artist would be seated next to him at dinner! The theme of the banquet dinner was "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." University drama students took their roles seriously and added mischievous delight to the evening's events. Robert (seen in the background) was so thrilled with all the work put into the banquet he insisted that pictures be taken of all the special treats that made the Oz table settings! Each table displayed a different scene from the classic story such as the cyclone lifting Dorothy's Kansas home off to adventure... ...as well as the melting of the Wicked Witch of the West! A wonderful evening was had by all and our sincerest congratulations go out to Robert! Robert also had the pleasure of recently giving a presentation at the Crandall Public Library in Glen Falls, New York. Crandall is well known for it's exceptional programming (Hillary Rodham-Clinton was a recent guest) and Robert was thrilled to receive the wonderful hand-made pop-up by local library friend, Adelaide Leibold. Apparently she also has affection for white mice just like Robert! The first page of the pop-up welcomes Robert to the Crandall Library with a group of cheering library supporters. The second page shows the beauty of historic and recreational Glen Falls, New York (and it really IS beautiful there!). Finally two mice at the end have a special message for Robert as well as offering the key to the library! The key is real but Robert didn't have the time to see which door it opened! Thank you to all our friends at the Mazza and the Crandall Library for making Robert's month of May so terrific!
